WORLD LORE
Eon is a mischievous shooting star object that travels the multiverse to grant wishes. If you wish upon a shooting star, there is a very low chance that Eon will come to grant you a single wish. As Eon is a playful but malicious spirit, there is always a catch. How devastating the catch is is completely random.
On Earth, 20XX, Eon happens to visit this dimension to explore this world full of humans. They travel across the world, cause mischief, garner a reputation, grant a few wishes, and leave to explore a new dimension. Their actions led to the extinction of humans as a species. For a few people’s wishes, they gave life to an object to grant the wish. For example, a few humans wished for a friend/companion in one way or another, and Eon gave life to a nearby object to grant them a companion. The catch was, this object was infected with an otherworldly virus that would spread to humans and turn them into living objects as well. Once turned into an object, the infected user becomes about half the size they used to be, and their intelligence/brain capability is (usually) lowered. What object the infected person turned into was seemingly random, but never an object they couldn’t identify. The object virus spread rapidly, was highly contagious, and had a 50% survival rate. The process was slow and painful, and ended up taking out half the world’s population. Alongside this pandemic, the effects of the few who were able to make a wish caused chaos across the world and led to what was effectively, the apocalypse.Eventually, with nearly the whole world now a different (but still intelligent) species, society is rebuilt. There are still a lot of abandoned places on earth that are now overgrown, but the new towns and cities that are rebuilt are half the size of human-made structures to accommodate for the smaller stature of the new population. After enough time passes, the story of how humans used to rule the earth becomes just an urban legend. The gruesome story of how their current society came to be is suppressed by the new governing power, and the ruins of human civilization become tourist locations. The new widely accepted deity is essentially just Eon, the star who appeared one day to give life to the first objects that led to the creation of their society. The first objects that were directly created by Eon don’t age and are essentially immortal. They can still die if killed, and so only some are still alive to this day. Depending on what object they were, it’s likely that they are larger or smaller than the average current population. Their descendants are of a similar stature, but are not ageless like their predecessors.Nearly the whole world is looking forward to Eon’s return, if they ever decide to come back. Due to the stories passed down through the years, star associated holidays, festivals, events, and general culture increases. Meteor shower watch parties are much more highly attended and anticipated events. Some objects pray/wish on the stars in the night sky before bed. Witnessing an actual shooting star is considered extremely good luck. Generally star shaped decor is seen all over, especially during holidays.
CHARACTER LORE
Iduna is a child that was admitted to the hospital to treat her disease. They’re a generally sweet and cheerful kid despite their circumstances, but enough time spent alone in her hospital room leaves her incredibly lonely. Especially considering most of her basic needs are fulfilled by a robot, rather than a human.
Due to the especially contagious object virus outbreak, exposure to other humans in the hospital is extremely limited for safety reasons, and experimental robots are used to take care of patients’ general needs. Iduna’s only exposure to another being is the sole Heart Monitor looking robot that comes every so often to give her food, medicine, and take her vitals. As the population continues to drop, Iduna’s parents stop visiting, and eventually stop sending letters. Desperate for any form of social interaction, Iduna resorts to personifying the inanimate objects around them to cope. One fateful night, as Iduna is staring wistfully out her window, she spots something shooting across the night sky. She remembers the stories she’s heard about wishing upon a star, and wishes for a friend. As she opens her eyes, she’s greeted by Eon, the colorful cartoony star object floating outside her window. After a brief interaction, a beam of light shoots from Eon’s hand, bouncing about the room until it enters the nearby Heart Monitor robot, giving it life. Heart Monitor is transformed into a half-robot half-organic creature, and is given the ability to switch out his wheels for legs. He is given sentience solely to be Iduna’s friend, and they quickly become best friends. Eon disappears shortly after performing their magical feat, and Iduna’s wish is granted, at a cost.Unknowingly, Heart Monitor carries the virus, and it spreads throughout the hospital. One by one, patients and staff start dropping like flies, until eventually the hospital is abandoned. Iduna catches the virus as well, and slowly but surely begins her transformation into an apple. Her limbs darken to black, a stem appears on her head, and her facial features become more simplified. It’s only a matter of time before she either fully transforms, or dies in the process, and as she is already sickly, the latter is more likely. Without proper care, Iduna’s previous illness also progresses, and she ends up needing a blood transfusion. The world is in shambles, and there is no blood to give them.In a desperate attempt to save her life, Heart Monitor takes her to the basement where bodies are cryogenically frozen, and puts her to sleep. He plans to wait until he can get her blood for the transfusion, or until a cure is found for the virus. He brings his charging station next to Iduna's chamber, and deactivates to conserve power.Heart Monitor waits for hundreds of years. He witnesses the Earth’s transformation from the confines of their hospital, occasionally activating to upkeep the hospital, keep the power on, and keep intruders out. He has motion sensors set up to turn him on whenever they sense someone enter the hospital. He also activates after a certain amount of time to clean up the rooms and hallways, but after enough time has passed, ends up resorting to keeping just Iduna’s room clean. He also activates once a year for Iduna’s birthday, talking to their sleeping body and getting them a present for when they wake up. Years of isolation and the impact of surviving the apocalypse alone takes its toll on Heart Monitor’s psyche, and they become mentally unstable. With enough stress-tugging at the cords connected to his head, one of them tears off, now dangling exposed wires. They grow to resent living objects as a species, and kills any object that dares enter his sanctum. He longs to go back to the good times when Iduna was awake, the hospital was bustling with humans, and everyone was alive. Alongside planning for Iduna’s return, he also starts planning how to bring back the human race as a whole.Current day, Heart Monitor’s hospital is well-known by the nearby town as haunted. It’s a local legend that nobody that enters there has ever returned, and the “green ghost” or “green monster” that lives there has a bad reputation. Heart Monitor towers over current day objects, and anyone that has survived an encounter with him doesn’t recognize him as another object, but a monster of some sort. Even the local law enforcement knows not to go there, and has set up warnings and cautionary signs to keep citizens away.Despite the warnings, daredevil urban explorers find the abandoned location interesting, and objects end up there one way or another. One of these objects is Bloodbag, who was dared by their group of friends to explore the building and bring something interesting back as proof of their deadly adventure. As Bloodbag steps into the hospital, Heart Monitor activates and hunts them down. He traps them in one of the rooms, and comes to the realization that they contain blood, something he needs. He kidnaps Bloodbag and performs tests on them, discovering that the blood inside is compatible with Iduna’s blood type. He also finds out that the blood inside them regenerates after they eat, which sparks a glimmer of hope inside of him. He doesn’t have a cure for the virus yet, but at least Iduna can be treated for her disease. That’s reason enough to unfreeze her, as he’s not sure how long this Bloodbag will live for. With fingers crossed, he awakens Iduna, and she’s the exact same as she was as the day she was frozen. They have a tearful reunion, and Heart Monitor explains to them as gently as possible what happened to the world while they were asleep. The accumulated birthday presents she now gets to open softens the mental blow, and she’s brought back to her room for the transfusion.
Begrudgingly, Heart Monitor keeps Bloodbag around and takes care of them alongside Iduna, as their blood is incredibly valuable to him. He hates Bloodbag, as they are an annoying object, but Iduna grows fond of them (much to Heart Monitor’s dismay.) They live together in the hospital, and nobody is allowed to leave except for Heart Monitor, who leaves to steal food and resources for them.Thankfully, as a result of being cryogenically frozen for many many years, the progression of the virus grew stagnant and stopped completely, so Iduna will remain a semi-human.
